Into the SPDR-verse: Space Physics Computing at UIowa
Jeremy Faden, Larry Granroth, & Chris Piker
We present a brief history of space physics computing at UIowa and how decades of experience have led to the flexible and remarkably collaborative processing environment we enjoy today. Then we provide a guided tour of the available resources, touching on some of the behind-the-scenes innovations, and ending with demonstrations of powerful tools supporting our leading-edge research programs.
This computing environment has evolved through the years supporting all our spacecraft missions, including Voyager, Galileo, Cassini, Mars Express, Juno, Van Allen Probes, and now TRACERS. Pioneering researchers from Van Allen, Frank, and Gurnett up to our current faculty, staff, and students have shaped the services offered, including das2 and das3 servers and Autoplot graphical data analysis. Can your own research benefit as well?
