There are many staff development and recognition awards offered by the University of Iowa that CLAS Staff are eligible for. Many have a monetary award associated. Please see the award website for additional information, submission requirements and due dates.

Mary Jo Small Staff Fellowship Award - August | Open in August Due Aug. 31 | The Mary Jo Small Staff Fellowship is an award that University of Iowa staff members may use to help defray costs associated with regional, national, or international meetings or workshops, as well as a variety of other non-academic professional development opportunities on and off-campus. |

Staff Council Awards -Board of Regents Staff Excellence Award | Nominations open the second Monday of November, close second Friday of the following January | Established in 1993, the award was created to provide a statewide forum to recognize staff members in conjunction with colleagues from the other Board of Regents institutions. Their accomplishments have significantly benefited the University, brought honor or recognition to the University, and had a significant positive impact on the State of Iowa. Each winner receives a commemorative gift, and the University grants a $1,000 prize to each award recipient. |
Staff Council Awards - UI Outstanding Staff Award | Nominations open the second Monday of November, close second Friday of the following January | This award recognizes current UI staff who have made outstanding accomplishments and contributions that significantly benefited or brought honor or recognition to the University. Each winner receives a commemorative gift, and the University grants a $500 prize to each award recipient. |
Staff Council Awards -David J. Skorton Staff Excellence Award in Service to the University of Iowa | Nominations open the second Monday of November, close second Friday of the following January | The David J. Skorton Staff Excellence Award in Service to the University of Iowa is given annually to individuals who have made significant contributions and have shown “exceptional imagination and dedication to improving the university community.” Service must include activities of high quality in staff governance, committee work, policy improvement, program creation, etc. and must be outside normal job responsibilities. Recipients will receive $1000 and a commemorative gift. |
Welcoming and Respectful Environment Award | Nominations open the second Monday of November, close second Friday of the following January | The Staff Award for Welcoming and Respectful Environment was established to shine a light on staff members who work toward achieving a welcoming and supportive working environment. The award is given annually to up to two recipients and each will receive a $500 gift and recognition on the Staff Council website. |
Distinguished Research Administrator Award | Open in December Due early January | The Distinguished Research Administrator Award is given annually to recognize staff members who performed exceptional service in support of research at the University of Iowa by exploring funding opportunities, assisting in grant proposal preparation, submission, post-award administration, and operational support. |
Distinguished Research Professional Award | Open in December Due early January | The Distinguished Research Professional Award is given annually to recognize staff members who performed exceptional service in support of research at the University of Iowa by conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing results and performing operational duties associated with a laboratory or research program. |
Susan C. Buckley Distinguished Achievement Award | Open in December Due early January | The Celebration of Excellence and Achievement Among Women, the university’s annual tribute to the accomplishments of all women at University of Iowa, recognizes outstanding scholarship, research, service and leadership among undergraduate, graduate, staff and faculty women. |
Staff Appreciation Grant Program | Year-round until funding is exhausted | The Staff Appreciation Grant program is an opportunity for groups seeking funding for appreciation and recognition efforts in their specific area. |
