How long have you been a member of CLAS staff? What does your job entail?

I’ve been a staff member in CLAS for a little over seven years now, starting in Classics and African American Studies and, last year, adding on the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies and the Magid Center for Writing. As a department admin, I do a bit of everything. Mostly, I oversee planning, human resources, budgeting, information technology, marketing and communications, course management, undergraduate and graduate program coordination, event planning, recruitment, etc., but really, I just do the things that need to get done.

What is your favorite aspect of your job? (Or, tell us an interesting story about something you discovered in your position!)

My favorite part of my job is working with all of my amazing colleagues, who do such incredible things. I feel the best about my job when I can support and advocate for the people I work with, as well as my individual units, and just make other people’s jobs and lives easier.

When you're not busy saving the world with your work, what do you like to do?

When I’m not at work, you can find me hiking with my dog, Cricket, and husband, Jesse, riding my bike around Iowa City, reading and writing poetry, hanging out in my backyard with my tiny flock of chickens – Rosie, Lilou, Gertie, and Dot – or traveling to new places (next up, Canary Islands for Thanksgiving!).

What is your favorite place on the UI campus, and why?

I have a very special place in my heart for Wild Bill’s, where I used to study when I was an MFA student in the Writers’ Workshop.
